Writers often speak of a muse that inspires their work. For me, that muse has always been music—not just as background sound, but as a living, breathing part of the writing process. It sets the mood, drives the rhythm, and gives each story its heartbeat.
At Heart Tide Press, music shapes everything I create. It’s more than inspiration—it’s a current that carries the story forward. Whether I’m writing a tense jungle escape or a quiet conversation between friends, the right melody helps me find the emotional pitch of the scene. A low, pulsing beat becomes the undercurrent of fear. A swelling chorus becomes the tide of hope.
Music guides the pace of the prose, the emotion behind a character’s voice, and even the timing of dialogue and action. It’s how I know when a scene is too fast—or too flat. It’s how I breathe life into silence.
I build playlists for each book—sometimes for specific action sequences or locations that need a particular energy or emotional tone. These tracks become a kind of emotional shorthand, helping me reconnect with the soul of the story every time I sit down to write.
